The Good Life is a small business that have committed ourselves to animals. We run with a staff of 4-5 people.
The owner, Kristen, is originally from Florida and traveled around the world for 10 years - driving boats and teaching scuba diving before settling in Homer, Alaska in 2014.
Although traveling is a huge passion and she always made sure to help animals in need wherever she was, she wanted a base. Starting in 2014, she would board one pet at a time and slowly started expanding. The Good Life supports the commitment to the welfare of animals. Profits from the business are used to rescue and foster animals in need.
She has 3 German Shepherds, 3 cats, a chinchilla, 7 chickens, 4 ducks, 2 geese and 2 goats - all rescues. And all, dearly loved and viewed as her children.
She purchased the property that is now The Good Life in 2016 and completed construction in 2018. She furthered The Good Life mission and developed 2 acres fenced in yards on the 15 acre property with two dedicated kennel buildings. The Good Life is constantly evolving and expanding with more fun projects in store.
The Good Life is 100% off grid, relying on solar panels, back up batteries, and generators. We believe in sustainable living and are committed to the Alaskan lifestyle. We all truly love Homer and everything that it has to offer and hope that we can share that love with your pet.
Stay and Play
Unlike other boarding facilities, your pet gets interaction all day. Your boarding dog will participate in our daycare program (offered Monday - Friday), provided that they want to and are comfortable with it. They will have 7- 8 hours of supervised playtime during the week days and 4-5 supervised playtime during the weekends (days that we don't offer daycare, but we will still exercise the boarding dogs).
We don't just provide a few walks a day. We wear them out because a tired dog = a good dog. We don't keep them kenneled all day. We like them to enjoy their stay and have a great time - to have their own vacation.
If that is too much play time for your dog, we will ensure that they get proper rest and downtime as well.
At night time, we have two options -
1. A 4 ft X 8 ft professional, individual kennel where every dog as their space
OR
2. Inside our home on the property in a homestay environment.
We tend to get to know the dog first and assess which would be more comfortable for them. Both the kennels and the house are heated in the winter, and are extremely comfortable with beds and water provided.
